TATTOO PROCEDURE

1. Wash hands. (Proper Handwashing Procedure)

2. Don gloves.*

3. Clean skin using germicidal solution with a clean single use paper product.

4. Shave if necessary.

5. Dispose of razor, without recapping, into sharps container immediately after use.

6. Rewash skin.

7. Change gloves.*

8. Apply pattern maintaining clean sanitary standards.

9. Change gloves.*

10. Place a barrier over the following:
• Work surface.
• Power supply.
• Clip cord.
• Machines.
• Nalgene bottles.
• Ergonomic equipment for tattooing.

11. Remove needle from sterilized packaging and place it on a clean field.

12. Insert needle into appropriate tube.

13. Affix needle and tube to drive pin.

14. Use tensioners on needle bar.

15. Use grommet or buffering material.

16. Check the integrity of the needle.(Loupe if necessary).

17. Place bagged machine on clean field.

18. Change gloves.*

19. Use clean single use ink caps.

20. Use a rinse cup.

21. Use barrier when opening and closing the pigment bottle.

22. Disperse pigment with out touching pigment bottle tip to ink cap.

23. Fill rinse cup with sterilized or distilled water.

24. Change gloves.*

25. Look for needle ride.

26. Adjust power as needed.

27. Draw pigment.

28. Use proper skin stretching technique.

29. Place machines in clean field when finished.

30. Switch machines without cross contamination.

31. Clean tattoo using single use product and germicidal solution.

32. Change gloves.*

33. Apply single use ointment to tattoo.

34. Affix proper dressing to tattoo with suitable tape designed for use on skin.

35. Give verbal and written aftercare instructions with contact information.

36. Remove gloves properly. (Proper Glove Removal)

37. Wash hands. (Proper Handwashing Procedure)

38. Proceed to breakdown and disinfection work area including chairs.

* OSHA: Change gloves. 1910.1030(d)(2)(v) Employers shall ensure that employees wash their hands immediately or as soon as feasible after removal of gloves or other personal protective equipment.
